Your Play Station 4 comes with a 500 GB storage, but it is not sufficient for video games in the PS4. Most Windows OS PCs are coming with a terabyte or more storage now and you can not do anything but feel short changed by 500 GB considering that the majority of the games occupy around 50 GB of storage on each one. This easy instructions show you how to update the 500 GB storage that comes with your PS4 for something a little more substantial. And no, it does not void the warranty, Sony said in the manual that comes with the console.

You can use a Solid State Drive (SSD) or a hybrid storage but I suggest you to stick a laptop storage that is standard 5,400 rpm because Sony officially does not allow other.

  • At first, take a back up of your PS4 games and data.
  • Turn off the PS4 and disconnect it from the power source.
  • The hard drive bay PS4 is located below the bright section of the console. Push upwards to remove it.
  • You will notice a screw with the PlayStation brand (photo below), remove with a screwdriver.

  • Pull the storage drive toward the front of the system to remove it.
  • With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws (four squares).
  • Do not remove the rubber inserts of the screw holes.
  • Place the replacement hard drive in the mounting bracket, and then attach with screws (four squares). Be careful not to make it too tight.
  • Connect the hard disk for your system with the screws, making sure it is fully inserted into the hard drive bay.
  • Re-install the system software of its PS4 (instructions are here).
  • Now you can copy the data that made previous backup via pen drive to the PS4 after you turn it on. Note that you must be identified with the same PSN account used the first time that you have copied the saved data:
  1. Connect a USB storage device to the system.
  2. Select Settings from screen.
  3. Go to Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data on USB Storage Device > Copy to System Storage.
  4. Select a title.
  5. Press X to add a checkmark in the checkbox for the saved data you want to copy, and then choose Copy.
Happy Gaming.
