Last week in Gizmodo released an inexplicable error in Google AdWords tool and suggested words displayed on child pornography. Google has now recognized the failure and ensures that it has solved. Well, if it were not because it is a serious mistake that should never occur.
The error in AdWords initially discovered Alberto Lizaralde, creative director in an international advertising agency. By typing certain words in Castilian, suggested AdWords terms on child pornography. You can read all the details about it here.
How can such a mistake? Google has given no explanation about the specific technical failure that led to the system to show and suggest these keywords, but in a statement to Gizmodo has acknowledged the ruling and said that it has solved:
We take very seriously the safety of children and we have deployed numerous resources to protect our products and eliminate the sexual abuse of children. There was a problem that caused our AdWords keyword tool suggest keyword variations inappropriate in Spanish.
We have updated AdWords to ensure that these combinations will no longer appear and continue working to improve the safety of children on Google.
We have found that the error is corrected (image below) and, indeed, the system suggests words as child pornography. A good reminder that Google algorithms are much less infallible than we usually believe.
