Twitter is making a play for people who have not logged into the service. Clicking on a topic, people will see a stream of tweets of popular accounts in real time, the company told. Before the makeover, people who sailed Twitter.com just see a welcome page with a message to log.

The San Francisco company is trying to revive growth, part of its strategy to build "the world's largest daily audience."

Twitter has 288 million users, but says that about 125 million more each month visit Twitter.com without signing.

Baird, Colin Sebastian says he is optimistic about the growth potential of Twitter, the prediction that reach more than half of Internet users in the next five years.

"Despite early signs of a slowdown in user growth, Twitter remains quite early in terms of overall Internet or mobile phone installed base penetration. In addition, user growth on an absolute basis actually appears steady and predictable,” Sebastian wrote in a research note. “We actually believe that Twitter is becoming a core part of the consumer web mosaic."

The new homepage that Twitter has been trying for months is launching first for users in the United States on the desktop.
